April Update

Hello everyone! I hope that April has brought in a decent amount of sunshine so you're all getting your Vitamin D!

First, I am not able to release my actual date of departure due to security reasons.

Having two part-time jobs, I am able to fund a lot of this trip on my own. However, we are still looking for sponsors to fund the future of this project. Today, I spoke with two Cardiothoracic Surgeons from the Oregon Health &Science University (OHSU). One I wasn't able to directly communicate with, but I plan on returning his call this Monday morning and will keep you posted on this.

I wrote letters in Christmas of 2009 and sent them out the following week. I sent out approximately 60 letters to doctors, organizations, churches, and sponsoring foundations describing this organization at it's beginning and seeking any wisdom, advice, assistance, or funding. The responses I received were minimal, yet encouraging. Dr. Paul Schipper reached me today, months later, after a letter was actually forwarded to him by Dr. Arvin Luchs. Our conversation was brief and factual, yet encouraging. I look forward to speaking with him in the next several days.

Also, I have recently come into contact with an orthopedic surgeon in Europe who will be travelling in Kurdistan for 3 weeks in July and offering his services for free. There will be more information on this development with time but we are currently looking for a stable schedule and routine for him to provide his services most effectively in areas with greater need.

On May 15th, 2010, I will be presenting at the Oregon Historical Society which is open to the public. On this day, for every adult ticket, two children will get in free. Please feel free to come by and I will be happy to answer any questions.

I will be releasing a Q&A segment very shortly through my video blog and I will make sure to post it on here.

There are limitless opportunities to volunteer for the Journey to Heal Kurdistan. There are short-term and long-term opportunities. It is guaranteed to be a very rewarding experience. If this is something you are interested in, please contact me at:
